ENLIGHT Kick-off event

ENLIGHT Kick-off event

On 1 November 2023, the second phase of the European university alliance ENLIGHT started with the University of Bern as its tenth and newest member. More than a hundred people from different faculties and departments came to celebrate the beginning of our ENLIGHT membership and learn more about the alliance.

The panel of speakers reflected the diversity of the activities within ENLIGHT. Rector Christian Leumann explained the strategic importance of ENLIGHT for the the University of Bern. Adnan El Kharbotly, President of the ENLIGHT Student Board, showed how ENLIGHT gives students new opportunities to study different subjects from across the network. Fritz Sager, Vice Rector for Teaching, explained how interactive teaching online and in the classroom go hand in hand in ENLIGHT.

Real-world challenges

Erik Olson, Professor of Health Psychology at Uppsala University, created an award-winning summer school using gamification and interdisciplinary collaboration to solve behavioural challenges in the field of medicine. Max Eisenbart, alumnus of the University of Groningen, explained how challenge-based learning teaches students interdisciplinary problem-solving skills.

Thomas Tribelhorn, Head of the Educational Development Unit at the University of Bern, attended the Teaching and Learning Conference in Bordeaux, which is one of ENLIGHT’s annual flagship events. It is an opportunity for teachers and students to network and share best practices. Each year, a prize is awarded for innovative and interdisciplinary teaching.

Join the adventure!

Virginia Richter, Vice Rector for Development, emphasised that the University of Bern has embarked on a journey with our ENLIGHT membership and encouraged everyone to get involved.
